Our Saturday Club
OUR MISSION
As a supplementary language school, our mission is to be a welcoming place where both parents and children can have fun, make friends and build confidence whilst learning Gujarati, Hindi and other India languages and sustain the values of Indian culture and traditions.
OUR OBJECTIVES
· To teach Indian languages, arts and sporting activities
· To develop an awareness of Indian culture
· To bring the community together
OUR STORY
The “Saturday Club” historically known as ‘Gujarati School’ was re-launched in September 2018. The ‘Gujarati School’ has a history extending over 3 decades run by the Gujarat Samaj, Nottingham.
During 2018, community research concluded that a new model was needed to attract children [and parents alike] to the school. We developed a formula which has now proven to be successful and we continue to work with community members to make the Saturday Club a welcoming environment for everyone.
A typical morning at “Saturday Club” begins at 10:00 am with “Gayatri Mantra” (prayer) followed by news and announcements. The 1st hour is spent studying Indian languages covering all the three elements of listening, speaking, reading and writing. After a short break, the “Bollywood Dance” class rocks the sports hall with some groovy and trendy Bollywood music and moves. After the drinks break, depending upon the weather conditions the participants are encouraged to take up sporting activities including but not limited to Cricket, Tennis, Badminton, Running, Kho Kho etc.
We also hold a “Christmas Party” before December holidays and “Anand Bazar” (Fun Fayre) before the Summer Holidays. During the academic year, we also conduct the Rangoli Competition, ‘Aarti’ (Hyms) Competition. The biggest dancing festival “Navratri” is famous across the world; We have also planned to conduct the ‘Dandiya-Raas-Garba Workshop” starting from the academic year 2019-20.
Please join us in building on the success and sustaining our Indian heritage...
